Ways to Get Rid Of Dark Circles and Puffiness!!

Discolouration around the eyes affects many people (you're not alone honey) but like any other imperfection, it can cause low self esteem and obsession with trying to get rid of it! How about embracing it? I know what you're thinking....''so I should embrace my bags under my eyes? or how dull and dark they look? YES!!! that is exactly what I am saying! Don't let these imperfections get in the way of being a confident and happy person!

But as most people we all want to be as close to perfection as possible and we want to eliminate the imperfections, right? So here are some ways in which you can minimise the appearance of dark circles under the eyes or get rid of it completely in some cases!

Lifestyle

  • Sleep:  Lack of sleep reduces circulation and therefore as a result it increases the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.

1.) Establish HOW much sleep do you need? For an average person 7-9 hours per night is enough however it varies between each person! So you feel well rested after 8 hours then try and have 8 hours of sleep each night! Girls you NEED your beauty sleep! You will feel more energised, less moody and look beautiful if you get the right amount of sleep!

  • Food:  Dark circles and puffiness under the eyes are often linked to a lack of Vitamin K and B12 deficiency.

1.)Foods that are high in Vitamin K include: Kale, Brussels Sprouts, Spring Onions, Broccoli (my favourite), Curry, Paprika, Asparagus and Prunes! And foods that are high in B12 include: Fish, Beef, Lamb, Cheese and Eggs (it is so simple to include these in your daily life; for example: scrambled eggs for breakfast with whole wheat bread...yum!!

2.)Reduce your salt intake! Do you add extra salt to your chips or dinner? STOP now!!! These foods already have salt in them and excess salts cause the body to retain water in unusual places such as under the eyes and cause puffiness.
Having too much salt in your diet impairs circulation and therefore cause the blood vessels under the skin to appear blue (this is why your eyes look purple/blue at times).

3.) Stay AWAY from alcohol and drugs as this not only affects the quality of your sleep but is really bad for your skin!!!! Unless you want to look like this......

Effects of using drugs on the skin!! Yuck!!

Home Remedies

  • Cucumber: Slices of cucumber will reduce puffiness and refresh the appearance of skin around the eyes!
1.) Cut 2 thick slices of cucumber and place on each eye (make sure to extend it over the dark areas under the eye). Do this for 10-15 minutes every day, keeping your eyes shut and you should see results in no time!!
TIP: Make sure you keep your cucumber in the fridge so that it is extra cooling on the eyes and minimise the puffiness!!

  • Tea Bags: Tannin in tea bags can reduce dark circles and the swelling under the eyes.
1.) Soak 2 tea bags in hot water for a few seconds and then take out and leave to cool.
2.) Place the cool caffeinated tea bags over each eye for 10-15 minutes ever day, keeping your eyes shut.
3.)Place the tea bags in the fridge overnight so that they are ready for the morning.

Cosmetic

  • Eye Cream: choose an eye cream that contains Vitamin K
Vitamin K is an ingredient that reduces puffiness and dark circles or discolouration in many people. Find an eye cream that contains this ingredient and is as pure as possible!! What I mean about pure is that they eye cream will have as little ingredients as possible....you do not want to be using creams with harmful and toxic ingredients (especially under the eye as it is such a delicate area).
- To see any results use the cream daily and for a long period of time!!

  • Concealer: a concealer will camouflage the dark under eye circles!
1.) Make sure that the concealer matches your undertone (for blue coloured circles use a yellow and peach concealer)
2.) Set the concealer with a translucent powder!

Also, Moisturise!!!! If your skin is dry under your eyes you will find it very hard to camouflage the dark circles as the concealer may end up looking patchy! So make sure that your skin is well moisturised with a rich moisturiser for dry skin and then if you use a foundation (this is the time to apply it) and after foundation apply concealer!!

TIP: Apply your make up in front of a window as this will give you natural light and you will be able to see how you really look like! Very often bathroom lighting makes you look flawless no matter what you apply on your face as it is artificial lighting!

You will never see results if you try something out for a day or for a week..no, no. no, no!!!!! That is not how our bodies work! To see a difference in your skin you need to use the products daily and for a long period of time (it is the only way to improve your skin) and have a healthy lifestyle!! With these two combined you are destined to have great skin and finally minimise or even get rid of the dark circles completely!
